EXIF Data Helps Catch Burger King Employees Defiling Food

EXIF Data Helps Catch Burger King Employees Defiling FoodIt’s something we all talk about but we really hope doesn’t actually happen – restaurant employees doing things to our food. Whether it’s spitting in our burgers, dropping food on the floor or, in this case, stepping on our lettuce, it’s something we just push to the back of our minds. It does happen though, as one 4chan user decided to show.

The anonymous forum user posted a picture of someone standing in the lettuce trays at Burger King with the post title “This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King.” Users of the forum didn’t take too kindly to this, and quickly found his GPS information through the geotagged EXIF data, notified the store, the local news and the authorities. Three employees have been fired from that Burger King and the company released an official statement on the matter.

“Burger King Corp. is aware of a photo that shows a Burger King restaurant employee violating the company’s stringent food handling procedures. Food safety is a top priority at all Burger King restaurants and the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any violations such as the one in question. The restaurant where this photo was taken is independently-owned and operated by a Burger King franchisee. The franchisee has taken swift action to investigate this matter and has terminated the three employees involved in the incident.”
