6 Questions You Need To Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Ask A Wedding Photographer

Getting married? Congratulations! Now all you have to do is make a million and one decisions, but we both know that’s half of the fun! One of the things that you will want to get right, is your wedding photographer.

Before choosing, ask them some questions first! We’ve collected 5 important questions, that should help you with your decision making process.

Does wedding photography make up the majority of your business?

The reason you need to know this, is that you need to know how much experience your photographer has in this area. Skillsets do vary, of course and while a photographer may well be very good with ‘action’ shots, they may not be so skillful with portraits.

That’s not to say that they are not great photographers and provide excellent photographs, but it will give you some idea of what they can do for you and how they may be able to contribute.

How long have you been a professional wedding photographer?

Right after the above question, this one should give a clearer idea of experience. It will always serve as an indicator of pricing. Now is also the time to ask see references and a portfolio. Reviews can also be sought online, and a reference given by one of your friends can lend a lot of weight also.

Are you familiar with the venue we have chosen?

It is heartening when the people we proposing to work with are already familiar with the locations that we have chosen for our wedding or engagement. A wedding photographer that has already been to the venue will have to spend less time and effort ‘staking it out’.

Every location is, obviously, different and offers it own advantages as well as its own challenges. If the photographer is not familiar with the site, perhaps it’s possible if they could visit before the big day in order to have a look around the place?

Are you going to be the photographer on the day?

Some of the large photography studios could book your photography session through an intermediary. If this is the case, then you should consider making a follow up appointment where you can meet the actual photographer.

When can we see the photographs?

Try not to forget this one, as it can avoid a lot of worry later when you are wondering where your photographs are. Understand that your photographer will need a little time to develop and edit the photographs, and there may well be quite a lot for them to go through.

What are your payment terms?

Possibly not one that you want to ask, since your big day is about much more than a balance. That said, it’s important to get it out of the way so that you know exactly where everything lies in terms of down payments. Make sure you ask when you need to pay the deposit in order to secure your date. Also, almost above all else, make sure there is a contract.

Your big day is going to be one that you remember forever, so make sure it is for the right reasons and make sure you choose the right photographer.
